We are a team of dedicated, service-driven leaders inspired by the change we can make in our own community. We enjoy giving back, becoming positive role models, and having fun with a group of like-minded individuals at UCLA. If this sounds like you―and you can commit to one site day per week―definitely apply to join our team of volunteers! See our site dates/times below to make sure your schedule can accommodate at least (1) day.

Program Application

We wouldn't be who we are without our dedicated student volunteers! At the beginning of every quarter, we recruit UCLA students to join our organization. Volunteers commit one designated day per week throughout the quarter, and are paired with a mentee.

Applications are currently closed. If you are interested in applying, our next application cycle will begin Week 0 of Fall Quarter 2023!

Mentors commit to one site day per week and are expected to attend site consistently during weeks 3 - 9 of the quarter.

Typically, mentors are paired up with one student and will work with him or her throughout the quarter, or across multiple quarters if possible. Consistency is important in order to build a helpful and healthy mentor-mentee relationship.

FAQ

Read below to see the most frequently asked questions when applying to become a new mentor. If you have a question that isn't on here, feel free to shoot us an email at joinbp@gmail.com. Thanks!

What do mentors do at site?

Mentor duties depend on which component you choose to be involved in. Our middle school mentors focus on homework help (with subjects ranging from Reading Comprehension, Math, and Science) in addition to non-academic activities tailored to the mentees' interests. Our high school mentors focus primarily on S.A.T. and A.C.T. preparation and college application guidance.

I just submitted my app. now what?

All apps will be reviewed by the end of Week 1. Applicants will then receive an interview invitation with current Bruin Partners directors and will interview throughout Week 2. From there, decisions will be made by the end of Week 2 and new mentors will start attending site Week 3.

I want to join but none of the site days work with my schedule. What should I do?

If you are unable to consistently fit any of the site days into your schedule, we encourage you to reapply next quarter. We recruit at the beginning of each quarter, and would much rather you apply when you are capable of making a full commitment to our wonderful mentees!

COVID-19 FAQ

We understand that this is a difficult and confusing time for everyone, so please feel free to reach out to us via email if you have any questions.

Is Bruin Partners still recruiting for next quarter?

Yes! Applications are currently open for Winter Quarter, and we encourage you to apply if interested!

How is Bruin Partners tutoring during the pandemic?

Bruin Partners follows both UCLA guidelines and works with each individual school to determine the safest method of tutoring for everyone. If site is in-person, you will likely be asked to take a weekly COVID test to ensure the safety of our mentors and mentees. If it is not safe to attend site in-person, we will host site over Zoom. We will keep our mentors updated as the situation evolves.
